As you wander through Maramures, you’ll encounter majestic gates guarding the entryways to homes. These gates, supported by three columns, bear intricate motifs—symbols of life and continuity. Sunbursts and twisted ropes adorn them, echoing the wisdom of generations. Villages like Vadu Izei, Desesti, Giulesti, and Barsana boast some of the most exquisite wooden gates. Each one tells a silent tale of resilience and heritage
Beyond the gates, the landscape unfolds—a patchwork of green meadows, haystacks, and hardworking people. Maramures is the “land of wood”, where massive gates stand as guardians of tradition. The tour starts from Cluj-Napoca city, which is situated in the heart of Transylvania and is much closer to the Maramures region. From here, you will be picked up by your guide and will go up north to start discovering Maramures even from the first day!
You will arrive in some of the villages that border the region, such as: Surdesti, Budesti, Breb. You will visit some of the Wooden Monasteries of Maramures, UNESCO Heritage sites with very well kept traditions, and you will be acomodated into a guesthouse right in the heart of the romanian traditional village!
This day will be fully dedicated to discovering traditions and crafts of the romanian people. Together with your guide you will stroll around the countryside and see how people live, eat, work and relax. Traditional workshops, cooking experience, horse cart ride and much more! You will be delighted to discover the rural life!

Today you will visit the famous Romanian "Merry Cemetery" - a living proof of tradition and uniqueness!
Aftwerwards, the tour takes you even further into the heart of Maramures, closer and closer to the mountainside, where denser nature wraps around the scattered traditional houses.
You will reach the Viseu village, where you will embark on a journey like in the olden times - with the steam train!
After this amazing ride that takes you through the completely silent forests, you will continue your tour to Borsa, and amazing mountain resort, the most famous in this region, and you will get accomodated for the night.

Today you will take a hike through the pristine Rodnei Mountains, up to the "Horses Waterfall", a famous nature spot, and the "Piatra rea" Cave.
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, the Rodnei Mountains National Park is a must-visit, offering high peaks, glacial lakes, and long hiking trails in the pristine Carpathian wilderness.
At night, return to Borsa resort.

This day will find you heading towards another impressing mountain range, Calimani, bodered by the beautiful Vatra Dornei resort and Colibita resort.
At the mountain's feet, you will go through mountain villages with beautiful panoramas, and you will arrive at "Tinovul Mare", a peat bog or mire, which is essentially a wetland area where the water table is close to the surface. This unique environment fosters a specific flora, primarily composed of mosses. Tinovul Mare is the largest peat reserve in Romania, covering an area of approximately 600 hectares.

Last full day day will find you in beautiful mountain resort of Colibita, an area that spreads around the lake with the same name, surrounded by amazing mountain landscape and fresh air everywhere! You will be able to take a boat ride, fish and relax.
This is the last day of the tour, when you will be headed back to Cluj-Napoca for your departing flight.
