Mici

According to common belief,'mici' or'mititei' were created in the late 14th century and originated in the Ottoman Empire.

They are little rolls, as the name indicates, and have been referred to as such throughout  Romania: mici. They contain a combination of meat and spices (garlic, black pepper, thyme, coriander and paprika) and were created to please the visitors plates. When served as a snack, they are only served freshly cooked on charcoal, with flatware or a toothpick.

It's frequently served with mustard, fries and murături (pickled vegetables).

Mici are extremely popular in Romania, with an estimated 440 million mici consumed each year.

They can be found in homes, restaurants, and pubs, although they tend to be associated with outdoor cooking. In recent years, since many Romanians celebrate International Workers' Day (1 May) with barbecues and picnics, mici have been extremely associated with the celebration.
