The oldest building in the Art Nouveau style from Roma

The Casino from Constanta is a piece of art whose rehabilitation is awaited by the whole country, and even by foreign tourists for over a decade.

The casino has, first of all, an essential position regarding the city's tourism. The actual construction of the casino began in 1904. The mayor's wish was to provide the city with an edifice similar to the great European casinos. In 1910, the Constanta Casino was inaugurated.
The casino was a gathering place for high society in this city. It was more than a casino. It also had a ballroom, a magazine and newspaper room, and reading rooms. By far the casino's biggest attraction was its beachfront terrace.

This eclectic piece of architecture is the only building in the world with three foundations, so it cannot be competed by any other building from this point of view.The three foundations were designed by two architects, Daniel Renard and Petre Antonescu, being projected under different governments. Daniel Renard was supported by the liberals and Petre Antonescu by the conservatives. These two having different point of views, each of them demolished the other’s foundation, so that in the end the construction we know today is the one that, at last, Daniel Renard designed.

The passing of time and the sea's climate took a toll on this beautiful building, it remained unused for the last part of 20th century up to this day, waiting to be renovated and put again in use.
