Ceahlau Mountain is the most significant massif in the Oriental Carpathians, that act as a gat between Transylvania and Moldova!
Some call it the Mount Olympus of Romania, and at a second look, it could be called even Yosemite of Romania thanks to its breath-taking rocky formations! - called towers, needles, calcareous ridges, karst relief with sharp peaks, caves, quays, valleys.
Due to the legends woven around this mountain and its majestic appearance, compared to the surrounding mountains, it is considered a true Olympus of the Romanians. Mount Ceahlau is unique in the Romanian area - it has a patron saint and a celebration, but, more than all, it has countless legends and stories. All this was born in the Romanian people because the rock formations in this region are really impressive in appearance, a fact that inspired people to attribute them to different characters and mythical places. Thus we have natural objectives called Dochia's Rock and Panaghia Rock (significant characters in romanian mythology), The Square Room, Soldier's Hat, Graves' Vale, Miron's Haystacks, Vultures' Bath, Crying Rock, The Water Rock and more. They are all like sculptures and convey impressive views.
Also, the massif is a real "water castle", the hydrographic network has a divergent and complex character, so there are plenty of waterfalls.
Though smaller in size compared to the other parks in a mountainous region with a little over 7000 hectares, this is the perfect place for when you want to get lost in nature bosom and just be with your thoughts, relax and reconnect. The highest peak is called Toaca, at 1904m, slightly more accesible.
You should totall ytake a hike in this area beucase it's full of amazing views. Nearby are also the Red Lake and Bicaz Gorges, other 2 spectacular natural sights. Cealhau Park is a must see destination if you are in the moldavian region!
