The delta of the Danube River represents one of the last natural paradises in Europe, a network of channels, lakes, and lushly vegetated forests. It is home to a fascinating mix of cultures and peoples—and a huge diversity of birds, presided over by the greatest of them all, the pelican. The Danube river flows into the Black Sea and has the largest marshland in Europe. The continuous stretch of reed beds is also said to be the largest in the world. The reeds act as a filter, making the water pure and drinkable. The Danube Delta was included in the UNESCO Project as a Reservation of the Biosphere because its peculiar features and the originality and variety of the ecosystems (more than 25 types of natural ecosystems).
Enjoy our tour and discover this amazing European sanctuary!
Our adventure in the Danube Delta starts from Tulcea, on the Sulina, Iulia and Sontea channels, until we reach the Mila 23 village. This is a small fishermen village, situated in the heart of the Danube Delta. You will have lunch on the boat, we will visit the village, then, if the weather is good, we could visit some other nearby villages, hoping that we will have the chance to see local birds such as herons, storks, pelicans, cormorants, egrets and more. We will watch the amazing sunset on Lake Ligheanca, then accommodation and dinner in a local guest house in Mila 23.
Probably the best day for exploration and bird watching! We will visit an amazing monastery, Stipoc, built in the middle of the water, in a wild place, and will see the Babina Lake. During your time in the village you could relax, look at how the locals fish and what their daily habits are. Accommodation at the same guesthouse in Mila 23 village.
In the morning, after breakfast, we start on the Old Danube canal, towards Sulina canal and reach the Crisan village. Then we continue on the Sulina canal, until we reach Sulina, a very old romanian town, that in old times was a pirate refugees port. The town is well known for its international cemetery, The Maritime Cemetery Of Sulina, and for the old light tower. Here the Danube is pouring into the Black Sea. Accommodation in Sulina.
After breakfast, we start from Sulina, towards our final adventure of the Danube Delta tour. Today we will have the opportunity to admire birds of all kinds, water lilies, reeds and many more. We go on the Busurca canal (Sea Belt), then we pass the Rosulet, Rosu and Puiu lakes and we reach Caraorman, a fishing village in the heart of the Danube Delta. We will make a short visit through the village, after which we will go back to Tulcea and this will be the end of our tour.
