Day 1
Bucharest - Horezu town (the core of Romanian pottery) - Transalpina Road - Ranca Mountain Resort

In the morning, around 09:00 am, you will meet your guide and depart from Bucharest.

We will head to the SouthWest part of Romania - the town of Horezu, considered one of the most representative places in Romania in terms of traditional crafts and folklore. Since 2012, the Horezu pottery is included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, being "an unique traditional craft"! While you can find many traditional symbols on the pottery vessels (like the Tree of Life, the Lost Path, the Flower, the Cross and so on), probably the most famous decorative figure is the Horezu Rooster, a symbol of soul resurrection and immortality, of light and power over the foces of darkness.

Once arrived in Horezu, we shouldn't miss either the beautiful Horezu Monastery (or Hurezi Monastery), one of the most representative buildings in the Brancovenesc Style, located at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and included too in the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993.

Optional lunch stop in a local traditional restaurant called "Doi Cocosi - The Two Roosters", then continue our drive up in the mountains via TransAlpina Road, until we reach Ranca Mountain Resort, where we will spend our first night.

Overnight accomodation with dinner included, in a 3* pension.

Day 2
Ranca Mountain Resort - Transalpina Road - Sibiu

In the morning, enjoy your breakfast "with a view" at the pension, overlooking the valleys and mountains.

We continue our scenic drive on TransAlpina Road, heading to Sibiu medieval city.

Transalpina Road is a not-to-be-missed attraction of our tour, being the highest road in Romania and one of the most beautiful ones in terms of scenery! Winding its way through valleys and plateaus up to 2,145 m in Pasul Urdele, the road offers breathtaking views together with lots of driving excitement. Transalpina is known also as the "King's Road", as it was fully modernized in the time of King Carol the 2nd, being inaugurated in 1939 by the King himself. Conceived as a strategic military access route, the road was also restored by the German army during the SWW, but was left completely forgotten during the communist time, being only recently renovated and opened.

Optional lunch stop on the route.

In the evening arrival in Sibiu, one of the loveliest and best-preserved medieval cities in Europe, where we will spend our last night.

Accommodation in a 4* hotel, centrally located, with a delicious traditional dinner included in a local restaurant. Food culture is one of the main attractions of the city, as Sibiu was named "European Region of Gastronomy" in 2019!

Day 3
Sibiu - Transfagarasan Road - Balea Lake - Poienari Fortress - Bucharest

Breakfast in the morning, then we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the medieval Sibiu, also known as Hermannstadt.

Being so well preserved, the city gained in 2007 the title of the "European Capital of Culture". Highlights of the city tour include: the Big Square, the Little Square, Huet Square, the Iron Bridge, the Council Tower, the old fortifications of the city, the Evangelical Church and the Orthodox Church.

After the city tour, we will return back to Bucharest, via the famous Transfagarasan Road - "the best road in the world" according to Top Gear team in 2009. The road is one of the most spectacular routes in Romania, crossing Fagaras, the highest mountains in the country, and reaches the maximum altitude of 2,042 m close to the Balea Glacier Lake, offering amazing panoramic views. So, prepare your camera for some breath-taking shots!

Optional, you can enjoy lunch in a special location, at the on-site restaurant & terrace at the Balea Glacier Lake!

Along our way to Bucharest, after 2 more hours of driving on Transfagarasan scenic road, we will reach Poienari Fortress - one of the places most connected to Vlad the Impaler, Dracula. The only way to reach it is by climbing 1480 steps, but you can also simply admire it from the road.

If times permits us, we will also have a short stop for a visit and pictures at Curtea de Arges Monastery, a religious landmark in Southern Romania inspired not only from the Byzantine tradition but also from the Ottoman one, being the burial place of Kings Carol the 1st and Ferdinand and Queens Elisabeta and Maria.

In the evening, we arrive back in Bucharest; drop-off at your hotel or airport (if your flight departure is in the same day). End of our adventure on the scenic roads of Romania!

**Please note that Transfagarasan Road and Transalpina Road are open for circulation depending on weather conditions!
